Winning a race in MM1 is much more difficult than in MM2!

It's probably too easy in MM2. Well, and the GTR-1 is way too fast (seriously, 260+ MPH?)! But in MM1, GTR-1 opponents are no match for using yourself a GTR-1...

Yeah, In MM1 the car's performance against each other wasn't as exagerated, in fact I won Museum Marathon in Pro using the Ford F350, try that in MM2 doing the same race with the converted Chicago and you might not come first.

Checkpoints are not so hard with the Freightliner, however, the last three circuits and blitz in pro mode, that's another story!

Hate to break it to ya... but it's actually pretty easy.

What I'm trying to say is that in MM2, the fast cars are so fast that the slower cars haven't a hope in hell of beating them unless you are talking about races like Chinatown where you can't go as fast.

Admittedly, I actually haven't done that particular race with a freightliner, but I have won with a F-350.

MM1 AI is pretty stupid, but MM2 AI is flat out retarded.

This mostly has to do with the fact that opponents in MM1 drive cars with the physics realism slider turned to 0.
