[SOLVED] Graphical Artifacts on Conversions

Postby BUGATTIMAN253MPH » Mon Aug 29, 2016 8:58 pm

I have solved the issue! In Zmodeler I had normal auto-update enabled, which was ruining the car's normals and causing said artifacts to appear. So make sure you have normal auto-update disabled!

I've started to notice an issue with my latest conversions, some of them have started suffering from bizarre artifacts. I'm guessing the cause of the problem is my 7-Zip configuration when I was creating the AR file.

Most of the front right quarter view is covered with dark shading.

This is what my 7-Zip configuration looks like, see anything wrong with my settings?

Maybe try making a zip file, copy the files inside to the zip file, and rename it to .ar?
Retired from modifying Midtown Madness games. Nowadays I mod Crashday Redline Edition in my spare time.

I tried your suggestion, but the problem still persists. I've also tried removing ReShade shaders and changing dgVoodoo settings, with no luck.

Curious problem to see it happening with the way you make the .ar file. Usually, they can make issues with the .mxt files, making the relative objects not appear in-game or making them off position.
Apparently the settings seem to be good and shouldn't give problems. I always use WinRar version 3.80 with the default settings of ZIP compression, and I've never got such troubles with it.

Doesn't WinRAR mess with the .mtx files? I don't have the problem with all my conversions. The black square issue happened with the cars in this mod first. this car on the other had seems to have similar issues, only on the grills, not the body.

Save your TGA files without RLE compression.

You're using ReShade options, right? Maybe the glitch on that model is given by them... Check again with it disabled.

That problem doesn't look like in those screenshots, and then, surely he always avoids to do that mistake.

I've even switched to WinRAR and remade the AR, but it hasn't fixed. :x

- I never had RLE compression enabled
- In WinRAR I made the archive .ZIP
- Compression Method is Normal
- Changing the TGA's color depth to 32 bit caused the affected area to go transparent.
- Changing the TGA's color depth to 24 bit caused the affected area to have 'colorful noise'.
- I am using WinRAR 3.80.
- I imported it back into Zmodeler 1.05 and the artifact was not there.
- I opened it in MM2CT and the artifact was not there.
- I removed MM2 from ReShade, still there.
- I switched my renderer back to dgVoodoo, still there.
- Deleted my Players folder, still there.

EDIT: When I removed the dgvoodoo files out of MM2's directory the glitch was gone. When I installed dgvoodoo 2.45 the black squares appeared in different places on the car, I'm going to have to look into it.

Send me one of the problematic models to me, in the second week of September I'll try to see if I find the issue (I'll only be able to see it by that time, so there's no need to rush sending it to me).

As he said, the problem was given by the use of the dgvoodoo files, present in the game main folder. Removing them the glitch disappeared.

Oh, my bad I missed that, I came here from the HD Universe topic. Still, a lot of users (include myself) need dgvoodoo to play on newer versions of Windows, and many more will come, after all Windows 8/ 10 are very popular nowadays so the chance newer members will have their machine running these newer versions is high. There has to be some issue causing this glitch, and figuring that out and possibly fixing it would avoid all that headache.

I was in Zmodeler redoing a car from the HD Universe, and I discovered that when I moved the model the normals got messed up, I went to options/Normals and discovered that 'Automatic Update' was enabled. Now, this may not be the issue, but it may be possible that the messed up normals are the issue, that would explain why it's only my cars being affected. I'm going to try this car in MM2 to see if the issue is still there, if it isn't then I'll have to redo the HD Universe and the Challenger.

I'm curious to know if could this be doubled faces, on Blender you have an option to fix that instantly. If not, maybe if it's normals related and that doesn't fix it, you could also give a try to Blender's normals automatic calculator.
