Can't decompress .ar file

Postby jmmrf99 » Sun May 01, 2016 3:12 pm

I'm trying to decompress an .ar file, a car for MM1 but I can't do it on 7 zip, WinZip or Winrar. Should I use a different program?

The MM1 add-ons and mods .ar files aren't like the MM2 ones. These last are just ZIP format compressed archives, instead the others have a property way of archiving. There isn't a known way to extract the files from them, but this has been already done in past.
Instead, to extract from the default game .ar files, you need DeAR tool for MM1 ones and DeAR 2 tool for MM2 ones.

There's a way to extract them. I'll figure it out again and let you know.

deAR works fine for me. It's used with cmd.exe and the mkar.exe

What I am trying to do is exctract the BMS file and see if I can edit it. Althoug, I am not sure if I need permision from the author.
