For first, you need to learn the basic functions of ZModeler and also know how work in polygons mode. This tutorial can help you.
Using the objects splitting per material should be enough to get the entire wheels out of the rest of this model, which will be united in the BODY_H object. Successively, you've to switch to the polygons mode (key 3), click on the object with all the wheels, select one wheel with the quad selection tool, enable the edits on selection by pressing the space bar (or click on the SEL button), use the detaching function and give the proper wheel object name to the new created object. Repeat this for other two wheels and rename the last remained wheel object. Center all the objects' axis.

Yeah, that happens. When you broke the wheel objects off, you also broke off the surface object, sent it back to wireframe. As long as you didn't move any, you should be able to re-surface the wheel without errors.
I'm curious though, the only object is 'default'. Is this a converted 3DMax file? If it is, there's another, possibly simpler way to separate objects while its still in .max form and export each piece individually.

America faces a threat worse than ever before. Yesterday, George taxed our tea. Today, Obama taxes our freedom. Tomorrow, someone may tax our mortal lives. We must act now, to stop this threat. The Rebel Alliance begins here.
