Storm_Sullivan's projects

Postby Storm_Sullivan » Thu Sep 12, 2013 4:14 am

For my first project:

I'm aware Jelly is planning a 2011 Ford Raptor conversion, but I have blueprints and it looks fairly simple, so I'm goina scratch model it. Maybe I'll make a cop version for SFPD and Arch county/

P.S. Sorry I've not been doing much, school has really been overwhelming me (mostly the fact that by no fault of mine I got a week behind in biology). So I hope to get a grip on it soon.

You can post pics by uploading them to an Image hosting service like ImageShack or PhotoBucket and put the Image's link between these codes

Well good luck with the project. :) I'll be checking this topic.

Do I need to make triangles or can I do any shape?
All shapes like circular wheels and spheres, curves, etc can be well represented by 'triangles', if you increase the number of triangles for a particular shape. Zmodeler 1.07b has some basic shape options which can be used to make wheels.
And for image upload, IMO use https://www.imgur.com because it doesn't require registration and you can even paste a screenshot directly from clipboard by pressing Ctrl+V.

So in other words, I cant make the whole side of the car in one giant poly, correct?

And how do I get my pictures lined up? I tried doing the front, but the splines were, like, where the bed and cab meet.

Better than imgur is www.postimage.org. It's faster and nicer than imgur. To upload an image, first go to postimage and then click on "Browse" there, select the picture you want to upload and after the upload is complete, select the text in the "Direct Link" in postimage and then press "Ctrl+C". Then come to the mm2x forums and write "Image". Example:[/img]. And then post.

No, unless your car isn't a pyramid. I don't know how to use splines, I can't get desired accuracy with them. So its better to make polygons click-by-click with mouse.

Use Silent1Unknown's tutorial on his website, if i were you, I would download his text files, DON'T use his youtube videos, thats just the modeling part of it.

I decided to set up a download for you, it includes everything in one tutorial, I cant remember where I found this. :)

here you go. ;)

This is how I learned, was very powerful, so use it wisely... :P

Facepalm. A bunch of Zmodeler users.

@Storm, you can make lowpoly cars with one massive poly for the side [quad] in 3DSMax. Quite the cool program ;)

Dont model a car by creating every single polygon. That's a suckers way of modeling because it takes a LOT of time, energy, and its not efficient at all. You want to make a general shape first with few large polygons, then break them down slowly and mold it into the shape of the car. I show how to model this way in my videos.

Admittedly, the videos are a bit too fast and every day till today I get a complaint about them. LOL. Actually, that was due to my old computer, bandwidth and Youtube limits of the past. So this is what I suggest:

1. Download my old tutorial that ESM gave 2 posts above and use it to model a VERY VERY simple model. The purpose is to learn to use ZModeler3D.
2. Then watch my videos to learn better modeling techniques and other shortcuts.
3. To put a car in game, download my Ultimate MM2 Car Converting Kit from my website.
