e-cobra's tracks

Postby e-cobra » Mon May 28, 2012 9:23 am

So, I've decided to make a track.. This one looks not so good but I'll make it good.
Image

Should every polygon in GROUND_ object be connected? And every material except cops(which it won't have) should be assigned to at least one material. Collision boundary of buildings too? As two objects can't have the same name, there's a different name for every building. This means there will be tonnes of objects!
What size of textures should the ground object have?

Show larger pic? And yes, every single polygon of GROUND_ has to be connected.

LARGE PIC
The ramp there is made as a building. But how will I scale it so that the car appears of the correct size?

In some tracks, the wireframe includes quadrilaterals instead of triangles. How's that possible?

Size of texture shoudln't be bigger than 1024, but you can use 256 too, also you need change from ground to GROUND_

Yeah, I know. That name is temporary. If I want to make parked vehicles, should they be made as buildings or there's some other method?

Yes, as PHn_ objects or BBn_ objects(props), you can also make ones like in default MM2 maps but you would need to make that in MM2ct manually

An update:

It won't be that flat. Should I create bounds for every building or MM2CT will do that?

You need make bounds only for Prop objects, if they are INST then MM2CT will copy the object and make bound from it

Make tracks it's harder than make cars, the operations are almost all different. There are strictly rules and shrewdness to respect too. If you want to make a map with complex objects and no traffic (better don't start with have traffic on own first track), is better make it all in INST PKG (PH1_, PH2_, etc. objects) with a flat PSDL terrain (GROUND_ object) under the entire track, large as it and made of only 2 polygons.

Good luck and good work.

Now, what is 'prefix' in MM2CT? Something similar to a car's basename? Anyway I have much more problems to look for:

What are those check-boxes without anything written besides them?

Image

What does this mean?
Image
The .3ds file has objects:
GROUND_
PH1_
PH2_
PH1_ and PH2_ are placed on but not connected to GROUND_ :sad2:
better don't start with have traffic on own first track
Yes, making ROADS_ and intersections is a nightmare so I won't  for now.
...with a flat PSDL terrain (GROUND_ object) under the entire track,
Will try that soon.

1: that means wich textures you want to use, there's nothing because you probably dont have any textures. you can ignore it first.
2: dont know why that is...
