You can convert .tex to .tga and the other way around.

You can try the AR Extract by Volky. Just run it in a folder with tex files and you will get all of them as dds or tga.

Impressive work, great have succeeded to make it. Agree with you too.
I don't really know with ZModeler 2, but in ZModeler 1 the .tex file format has never been officially supported. Exists a plugin for it to make possible load files of this format in the Materials Editor; the only disadvantage is that everytime the .z3d file is closed and opened, the textures have to be again loaded and assigned to each material manually.
