Midtown Madness 2 and OS

Postby Pabolo » Tue Jan 31, 2012 10:18 pm

I had an idea to make a patch. Yes :!:, that's not a dream. OS Windows XP is getting older, and patches for it are getting useless. More and more people switch to systems like Windows Vista or 7. So I thought, it would be usefull to create a patch for these OS. What do you think about it? From what I know, in Windows Vista, there were some problems with sound ingame. More information below:

Windows Vista and Midtown Madness 2
MM2 in Vista

I'd like to know if people with Windows Vista and 7 with MM2 installed could tell what problems do they have while launching "clean" game on these systems. It will definietly help to create each patch. Patch would be in form of installation package. I'm waiting for user responses.

I don't really think that this is necessarry because when running it in compatiblity mode everything is perfect! It would be better to do something similar for MM1 because on Windows Vista and 7 it does not detect the video card and the software renderer option has very bad graphics and you can only play with the lowest resolution.

Ehm.... Yes :)

It could use someone like that, who have been able to write such a program (CarLuver69, Midas, dummiesboy, _7_Skeeball_7_ etc.). Unfortunately, I am dark in programming :( :P Not I know myself good in programming.

I don't know anything about programming either... :P

Anyway, MM2 works fine in Windows 7 with some tweaks, it just has a lower framerate than in XP. It's MM1 that really needs the attention. Some people have issues with detecting their graphics card (which I wrote a tutorial on how to fix... not very popular), and everyone has an issue where MM1 is forced to a low CPU priority, causing heavy studdering on most systems.

Could you give me a link for the tutorial? Thanks!

The tutorial is weak? I'm sorry if you can't take 5 minutes to read the entire post and realize that you have to get information from your computer in order for it to work.

Why don't YOU go make a REAL patch so we don't have to rely on DB's tutorial? I'm waiting.

Pabolo, this idea is really bad and impossible, and especially, how make a patch to let work MM2 better on Windows Vista and 7? How start? Remember that the game source code isn't available, otherwise existed lot of deep game editing possibilities. The topics that you've reported are old ones of the first impressions and reports on how MM2 works with more rence Windows operating systems, but as usually happens, solutions to have a better working and less troubles on them has been found, and right by Dummiesboy, as he says, for both MM1 and MM2. Tutorials are better sometimes, also to figure out what was the cause of the problem, and such little problems, can be different from a PC to another.

Pabolo, you have to know that what Tonywolfe121 did time ago with that "source code", isn't absolutely the real game source code, it can't never be got, that's just the Midtown2.exe file decompiled in C programming language. Has been already said that can't be done nothing with it about implement new features, make patches, etc.
At least actually and with that's available, there's no way to attempt to implement a patch of the proposed type.
