Computer Problems

Postby cody » Wed Dec 08, 2010 7:12 pm

Why can't I access any of the following websites?

Mediafire
Mp3Raid.com (Legal free music download site)
Filestube
Microsoft Update (update.microsoft.com)
Any internet security or anti-virus sites (except for online scanners)

The problem has been going on for months and my antivirus programs don't detect any viruses. What's wrong with my computer?

Well as far as mediafire, mp3raid, and filestube--some ISPs will block file hosting sites and basically any sites that have anything to do with warez. Also some isps will block image hosting sites.

It's weird that you can't go to microsoft update.

Also, I can't update my Internet Security. It says "Error connecting to update server". When I try Windows Update through Control Panel, I get error "Code 80072EFD" (whatever that means)

Download and install Malwarebyte's Anti-Malaware, run a scan, and see what results you get. More than likely you have a virus.

That probably won't work. The virus could easily just hide itself/prevent quarantining/deleting.

If you have another hard drive, then turn off your computer, unplug the old, plug in the new, install XP/Vista/W7, then download a trial of something like kaspersksy. Once set up, turn off computer, plug in the other hdd, boot to the one with the fresh install and scan.

i had that problem a while ago it is a worm that blocks warez sites because you can download anti-viruses from there and also the anti-virus sites , for the update site it is blocked too because updating your system most of the times improves your firewall and that's a problem to the virus

the best solution re-boot your PC ;)

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

TRACERT google.com (instead of google.com, put in one of your sites).

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Sounds like a virus to me. I use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware & Spybot Search & Destroy to prevent problems like this!

And here's the output for Malwarebytes:

How do I get my website access back? How did the virus (or worm) get through my Internet security in the first place?

You got virus into the computer by going to some sites that contain viruses. Maybe your computer is old. Like mine. Just search the virus site list on google or whatever web browser you use. There could be even online games that could have caused these viruses. Perhaps you should try downloading AVG or Norton Security Software. These scan computers properly for viruses.

I'll try AVG. If that doesn't detect it, I'll try Norton. Rebooting doesn't help (I've tried 10 times).

LOL, one thing is saying it right, the other is common sense. If you do, of course you need to back up. These people can help you much better, sign up, and post a topic- https://www.techsupportforum.com/
