Most probably, youre using ZM v1.07b. It importing feature is seriously flawed. You will need ZM v1.05 to import properly. I think you can find a copy on MMArchive, but the site is down for the moment. Maybe there is one here. Not sure. Or, as a last resort, search the threads at MM2C. Its been linked a few times.

The version 1.05 of ZModeler is the more stable in importing any .pkg file; with the latest one, the 1.07, the program crashes most times. Anyway, for the exporting I suggest to use the latest one with the Maxoff's PKG filter.
About the less memory message while the importing, it can depend on the .pkg file that you're importing. For example, some .pkg files of the game give that message, and with this seems that they're impossible to import. This could also happen to some .pkg files of some add-ons, but I don't have experimented this until now.

You can't use the 1.05 version to import GTA or NFS models (except from NFS4 only).
Here's the supported video games/formats for each ZM versions :

Indeed, that's the problem. The .dff and .bin filters of the old ZModeler 1 are for GTA VC and for NFS6. For the most recent versions of these games you must use a registered copy of ZModeler 2, and isn't free.I'm trying to import files from GTA SA and NFS MW/ProStreet.
In my PM I told you which kind of model do you to convert, meaning from where it comes.

The ZModeler 2 license costs 60 USD, and it can be updated for the future versions of it. More info in the ZModeler2 website here.
If you don't use it in a professional way, spend money to buy it isn't worth.

BTW if you want to convert a recent NFS car (I mean from NFS9, 10 & 11), you can download the Z3D and textures files from this website (supported for ZM1 versions).
