Guide: Play MM2 on Linux

Postby whoami » Mon Jun 09, 2014 3:30 pm

Hey people. What you want to do is this:

1. Install Wine 1.6. (1.7 may work, but Wine's website says it's a good idea not to try) Installation varies by distro, so figure that part out yourself.

2. Now look for an app called Notepad. Open it - it's the Wine Notepad. Running it will initialize Wine into your home folder.

3. Open the app called Winetricks. Choose the option "Select the default wineprefix", press OK, then choose "Install a Windows DLL or component", then press OK again.

4. In the menu that comes, choose all this:

- d3dx9
- d3dx9_26
- d3dx9_28
- d3dx9_31
- d3dx9_35
- d3dx9_36
- d3dx9_39
- d3dx9_42
- d3dx9_43
- d3dxof
- devenum
- dinput8
- directmusic
- directplay
- dmsynth
- dsdmo
- dsound
- dxdiag
- dxdiagn
- quartz

Press OK. The required stuff will be downloaded and installed.

5. Put a copy of MM2 anywhere in ~/.wine/drive_c/ - this is the C:\ drive of Wine. (If you don't know where this is, just type it in your file manager's address bar)

And now right-click the Midtown2.exe and open it with Wine. It'll work. :)
