Did you try to re-install FF ?

Anyway, start FF in safe mode to check if this problem is based on a bad extension update.

More infos from https://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

The bookmarks (Windows XP) are available from "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxx.default".

Check the "bookmarkbackups" folder. However I dunno how you can convert *.json files to *.html
