Monitor question

Postby matt1314 » Sat Jun 14, 2008 3:06 pm

Hi everyone.

I've a little question with my monitor: when I'm clicking on the MM2 icon to start the game, my monitor (the screen) starts to twinkle a few times. Does it damage the monitor (the screen) when it starts to twinkle when I'm launching MM2? I've got 1024x768 Pixels resolution (32 bit, 85 Hertz) but the game menu of MM2 has got 640x480 Pixels (16 bit, I don't know the Hertz) resolution. Is it possible that I'll lost the monitor some day and I'll have to buy a new one? I've a Plug and Play monitor with ATI Radeon 9600/9550/X1050 Series. Or doesn't it damage the monitor? I haven't got a mesomorphic monitor, I've a Sony HMD-A230.

Thanks.

P.S.: Here's a picture of my monitor:

Please help.

There's no need to stick topics, usually they aren't noticed.

The monitor twinkle should be done by the screen resolution changing to 640x480. The monitor vertical refresh rate is important too. For old CRT monitors is good 60 Hz, while for LCD 75 Hz, in all screen resolutions.
At that screen resolution is setted a different vertical refresh rate (you can see it for the info panel in monitor OSD menu).

I don't know, but set 60 Hz from the screen properties of your monitor in Windows, at the resolution which you usually use it.

Use often the degauss function of the monitor in its OSD menu. Low vertical refresh rates makes this effect to CRT monitors, especially with high resolutions like 1280x1024.
The right settings are low resolution with low refresh rate and high resolutions with high refresh rate.

60Hz? I laugh at that. I use 85Hz if possible, if not then I use 75-80Hz

Yeah, for all resolutions is preferible at least 75 Hz, better 85 Hz. For low resolutions like the lower one 60 Hz is acceptable. Anyway the twinkling it's normal at high resolution and low refrash rate, and it doesn't says that your monitor cathodic tube is damaged.

I've a Maxdata Belinea CRT monitor, that I don't use, setted to 1024x768 screen resolution and 75 Hz of vertical refresh rate.

Ok, now you persuade me, that this twinkling won't damage the monitor. Thanks! Now I can play MM2 without any anxieties!
