Maybe it doesnt support your driver, try to download the XP Patch, and replace the EXE with the Speed Boot one.

The only possible solution is that you haven't the graphic card drivers installed, so if you haven't them install the ones for your graphic card model. Or, if they are installed, it's more a problem of the game; try to uninstall and the install it back again, and after use also the files that Zac suggests.

And I bet why what Zac said didn't worked, because install the game patch and use the speedboot won't solve a problem related with the graphic card and the impossibility to select the hardware rendering mode in the game graphic options...
Try to install the last version of the drivers of your graphic card, maybe there's just the lack of them. Tell which graphic card you have. Also, if the downloaded game copy is the CD image, and so it's installable, uninstall and install it again.

BTW Coolguy, you hadn't a such problem before, seeing your old MM2 screenshots...

Indeed, a such problem can happen mostly, and I would say only, if there aren't the graphic card, or video controller, drivers installed.
Find the ones for your graphic card and install them, then reboot the system. After you'll be able to play the game in hardware rendering. To help in finding the model of your graphic card, download and use this program.
