Best antivirus software?

I need help with finding a better software, since McAfee's been pissing me off lately with its updates that use loads of memory... And slows my PC down while scanning. So, if there a better antivirus software that uses small amounts of memory, and is secure, smooth, error free and speedy while computing. I'd appreciate it.

none , most of the antivirus softwares are getting bigger and bigger , i had to stop the autoupdates of my avast , it was annoying when i was working on zmodeler and the updates were downloading/installing and the apps start to crash . I'm thinking to remove the antivirus and work without one , as long as you don't download from unknown pages and torrent sites your not going to be harmed , of course you have to pay attention what links do you click , for example don't click links that come from spam emails and things like this .... about small softwares , i think nod32 and caspersky(something like this lol) were pretty small few years ago , i'm not sure for now since i've been using avast for a long time now

I like using Microsoft Security Essentials. It's very nice and easy to use. And, I love it. Doesn't use much ram/memory either.

I use Spybot: Search and Destroy and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, IMO the best combination to keeping your computer squeeky clean. I use those two coupled with AdBlock Plus for Firefox, and haven't had ONE virus. Like, EVER.

And for a while, I had NOD32. But my key "expired" lol

I've always used Avast! Antivirus, very good free antivirus software, also some comparing tests that I've seen confirms this. Others that I like are Avira Antivir and AVG (only the latest versions for this last one, it has improved a lot). Never tried Kaspersky and G Data, they're not free, but they look really good; NOD32 is very good but too much complicated to most of the users, maybe the same is for Panda Antivirus. Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0 is ok.
But, with the antivirus software must be keepen an antimalware software, like Spybot: Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware. Use also Piriform CCleaner and Hi-Jack This as system cleaning and errors checking programs. More, for the browser that you use put an advertisements block add-on, ignore them can be enough, though.
At the end, the best antivirus is the user, pay attention seeing in which websites you go (look the URL in the address bar, most of the times can guive you an idea on how is the website where you go) and which files you download, especially for the ones that you feel suspect. I haven't problems with viruses since some years, the few found ones are false positives for sure (they says "Generic" most of the times) because related with known programs and games files.

So far I've got CCleaner, SpyBot: S&D, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Advanced Systemcare (if this is counted as one...) , and of course, McAfee.

Which antivirus is recommended the most? Because I'm really in need for a better software.

AVG all the way! Ever since i started using it i havent ever gotten a virus
or rogue.

McAfee is the worst anti-virus out of all them. Delete it off your computer. If you haven't installed the 2 I mentioned already, do it as soon as you can.

I'll try out Avast! Antivirus 5 first it seems to be decent, if its good enough then I'll keep that.

Yeah, Mcaffee is definitely terrible. Not as bad as Norton, but still terrible.

For what it's worth, I use BullGuard. I absolutely love it. Their tech support is great, and the program is less resource-hoggy than most. It also has specific game modes that activate automatically when you launch a specific executable and will open up specific ports for the time that the application is running, then close them when it's done.
