I think mm2 can't use GIF. To make animation for mm2, you must modify the object on which you want to apply animation and create textures for animation (there is a good tuto here).
I know it's not a good way but you could shot image by image your AVI and make your textures (but it will be long to shot every images of a 5 second movie...)
Sorry, i've got no better ideas.

After a search I've found some programs to convert AVi movies to GIF animations and vice-versa. There's 123 AVI to GIF Converter, but isn't free. Another similar program is SWF-AVI-GIF Converter.
I haven't tried them, if you want you can give a check.

HPA, the GIF animation isn't to be used in MM2, something not possible, thought, but it's for the website as mod preview picture.

Thanks guy! :D It's my first animation. I made it short, so that it wouldn't cause any problems with size.

I just used Fraps, and Windows Movie Maker to make it, and save it as an AVI file. Then I used Camtasia Studio 6 to convert it to a GIF file.

It was a little tricky to export it at first, because there was nothing clear. I eventually figured out that if I go to "File/Batch Production", created a new preset manager, which specifies the properties of the gif, then click finish, it would export into that. :D
Tricky, but whatever.
