Try again, and by uploading the image to use as avatar in an images hosting website and pasting the direct URL link in the field called "Link to off-site Avatar".

Maybe the link begins with "https"? Try to delete the "s" if so, and ensure the link ends with the file format of your image (".jpg",".bmp" and so on).
