i was doing some pc cleaning and accidently deleted deAR 1 do you know where i can redownload it

is their another way to open the mm1 core file i keep getting the error can't create folder C:\program files\microsoft games\midtown madness\core

You have to install the three files of the installer (the downloaded .exe file) in the game main directory, like C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Midtown Madness\. After execute the file ARextract.exe, tipe the MM .ar file, e.g. core.ar, and then click Extract files. After the extract you'll got the MM core files in some folders in MM game directory.

but the download i got was deAR and the readme when i open deAR i get press any key to exit

Yes, I've used the AR Extract, another program similat to the DeAR 2 (for look). The DeAR 1 program is like a DOS one, and I haven't never understand how to use it to decompress the game .ar files.
I don't know where you can get the AR Extract program; if it's available somewhere, it can be in a less known website.

The DeAR1 was superseded by the DeAR2, so that's why The AR Extract program probably won't be around anymore.

No! The DeAR 1 is for MM1 while the DeAR 2 is for MM2.

The AR Extract program is an alternative to the DeAR 1, and this is a lot better: it extracts the MM1 default .ar files in a easy way; I haven't never got the DeAR 1 works!
There's also the "twin" program, the AR Maker, to create the MM1 .ar files. There's also for MM2 a similar program, but it's made by a different author and is in German.
