Why 7 gears manual crashes the game when 8 gears is fine

So I tried something new with vehcarsim(s), not really new. I've done this three years ago. I added gears in IRT Panoz GTR-1. I tried to add another gears in manual, set it to 9 instead of 8. The game crashed, not literally crashed but became unresponsive. So I tried to set it to 10 to have 8 speed transmission. The game didn't crash after starting a race. Seriously? How does the game codes really work?

NOTE: If this is too incredible for you, Why not try it yourself...

I'll have to check this curious thing. I tried with the 7 gears too, time ago, and that can't clearly work in-game.

Well, let's jump to the conclusion the game was never designed to have 7th and 8th gear, although there's a texture for 7-8 gears. Try 7 gears in automatic it will replace the reverse gear ratio of the manual leaving you unable to reverse. I think this was planned during development then cancelled knowing MM2 was rushed. Don't know if this works on MM1? I'll check it out.

I never knew this would be possible.

There was some bus addon that had such feature but it wasnt working properly anyway. Back when MM2 was made most of vehicles had no more than 6 gears so there was no need to make more functioning ones

Of course, the game wasn't designed to have more than 6 gears to work properly. I agree with Sajmon, and it's so also with the default game cars, so why implement more gears?
I've tried to set 8 gears and it works both in auto and in manual, but with this last you haven't to go higher (it's possible, and you'll insert the rear gear in this way after the 8th gear), or the game will crash. Both doesn't seem to work well together by switch, anyway. The best choice is to have 8 automatic gears and 6 manual gears.
