Post Apocalyptic Islands

Postby e-cobra » Thu Oct 31, 2013 4:10 pm

Hi,
Since the time I discovered power of Blender, it urged me to try to make a track. And this is the result..

This is what I'm making since a week. As the name says, its a deserted track with no traffic. The idea is that some apocalypse caused the place to get abandoned. It is basically 3 islands separated by water and connected by bridges. I raised the bridges on y axis so as they don't interfere with rest of the mesh while separating objects, before importing into Zmodeler.

It'll use default grass and ocean textures from MM2 hence no material conflicts with other tracks. Some pictures:

The broken suspension bridge: There will be ramps to jump to the other side.

A building that is on the verge of collapsing due to a recent tremor. :P I made it straight and crashed using physics system in Blender. 8)

An airfield: Abandoned ATC tower, now a place for special interest for UFOs that will hover around in night.

I'll, trying to finish this off within few days, maybe a week...

You won't be able to hear that as they'll be far above.

Interesting project and great work so far, looks promising. Good ideas. :)
A way to fix the not connected vertices, as visible in the last screenshot, is export in 3DS format that object and import it, all using ZModeler.

Thanks for the replies.. Currently assigning textures to grounds and separating objects:

I've to level the vertices where ground meets water.

Looks impressive from this panoramic view, good work. :) Make regular sea distances.
I advice you that in those parts where there isn't a so high amount of polygons, or the polygons are really big, can happen the effect of don't see the ground where you're driving on, because it gets "covered" by the fog effect. For example, it's so in all those bus cities that use a big flat PSDL terrain made of only two polygons.

@Franch, is that the same type of thing that happens when you drive far out into the ocean in SF? :?

Yeah, it's that. It depends by the less density of polygons in those parts of SF.
