Problem Starting MM1 RIP

Postby cody » Fri Aug 06, 2010 6:53 pm

I get this error after the Microsoft video (but before the main menu):

Debug Assertion Failed!

Program: C:\Users\Owner\Documents\MM1 RIP\Midtown
Madness\midtown.exe
File: vsprintf.c
Line: 91

Expression: format != NULL

For information on how your program can cause an assertion
failure, see the Visual C++ documentation on asserts

(Press Retry to debug the application)

(Abort button) (Retry button) (Ignore button)

Why do I get this error? What does it mean? :?

Try to assing the Windows ME or XP SP3 to the game .exe file from the compatibility tab of its properties, and also, try to run it as administrator right clicking on it and selecting Run as administrator. However this game gives troubles to run in recent systems with recent operating systems.
Seeing this error message it sounds like something related with the lacking of the Visual C++ support... :roll:

I was getting the exact same error when trying to run the program in Windows 98 compatibility mode. The solution, turn it off. :wink:

I was running MM1 as an administrator with compatability set to Windows XP SP3 and I still got the error. Why? It says the same for the ISO Version.

Turn off compatibility mode completely. For some reason, it crashes MM1.

Thanks for this solution Dummiesboy, pretty weird anyway. The compatibility mode isn't always the one to run old software with new operative systems without get problems.
