Computer Troubles

Postby dummiesboy » Sun Nov 22, 2009 12:06 am

Recently, my laptop, which is the main computer I use, has been having numerous problems, like a failing screen, virtualy useless headphone jack, very slow performance, and recently, a fried power board. :? The hard drive is safe, but it is now unusable. However, it is a business laptop from 2003, so it has had a decent life.
As of right now, I am writing this on my other computer. This one hasn't been undated since 2007 though, so I wont be able to continue any of my work.

A good note though, on Christmas, I am getting a brand new, state of the art gaming laptop. So I will be able to continue then. I cant do much here, because ZModeler is useless on this computer. It crashes upon startup. This computer is from 1997, so it comes as little suprise.
I will still be here, but maybe not as much. So until christmas, I wish you guys luck with your projects. :)

Get a enclosure and backup the files. Good to know. Hope you get this fixed.

Isn't good work with an old computer where you can't do almost anything because it's too slow. Hope you get this fixed soon, and a data backup to an external HDD is always essential, never forget it.
I would prefer a desktop system than a laptop, but if it's more comfortable for you there's no problem, buy a very good one.

Well, a bit of good news. I have managed to find the sweet spot with the laptop's power cord that will make it charge. Who knows how long it will last, but I will try to keep it like this. Hopefully, it can survive until Christmas.

And about getting a Desktop over a Laptop, I would much rather get a Laptop, simpily because of the convinience. I can take it anywhere, and it is (supposedly) just as good as a desktop.

This is the one I'm getting.
Hopefully, it will be good.

I don't think you can have 3 GTX 295s in a laptop. :P

But yeah, they are pretty much as good as a laptop. I just like desktops better because you can order all the parts yourself and build it yourself, saving a lot compared to buying a pre-built laptop.

EDIT: How does DDR3 RAM work properly with an i7 when only 2 slots (4GB) is used? :?

Acually hummers, this laptop is Barebone, which means you can upgrade it, just like a Desktop.

And about the specs, I donno. My dad pre-ordered it, and he knows alot about computers, so I donno.

Ugh, well, the problems are comming back. I can't keep this thing on, and I bet that after I hit send, it will shut off again. This is the 3rd time I've tried posting. :x

To keep it short this time, my laptop is now broke. I cannot use it anymore. Sorry. Cya around christmas, or very hopefully sooner if my parents can just give me my new laptop. It's sitting in the workroom unused right now.

Oh, so now it's definitely broken up. That's really bad, I hope that you had already done a data backup, you had the time since it was still working, but not until Christmas as you were hoping. :|
Well, better buy the new laptop that you plan to buy for Christmas, and don't forget to let us know its specific posting them here, maybe with some pictures.

Yeah, I did a data backup. I was able to get it on an external HDD about a week ago. Anyway, I've tried everything now, but the power just wont reach the laptop, there must be a broken connection somewhere, but it is useless to look into it when christmas is this close.

And I am also writing this on my wii, just like in march when when my laptop was getting repaired. (Obviously didn't last...)

Well, I think it's safe to say that I have some of the most understanding parents in the world! Since my laptop broke about a week ago, my parents have been talking about giving my new laptop to me sooner... and guess what! :D

I haven't had a good chance to try it out yet, because nothing is installed yet. I'll post a few pictures of it, and how it runs in that topic Franch asked about. Maybe sometime this weekend.

I am still getting used to the different keyboard, so I may make a few typos here and there for a little while.

So you have it now? Good you got one. Must run well. Include some gaming info, im interested on how many FPS you get. I had a similar Laptop, but with different specs. By looking at the specs, I see it heats up quickly, correct?

Great that you've got the new laptop. :) Is it still the MSI GT740 that you've planned to buy? I'm seeing its specifics only now and is very good, hope that you've paid it a good price. The graphic card is good for some games, and its perfect for MM2. Maybe it could heat too much after an intensive use.
