New upgrade for my latest PC. I've changed the CPU fan with the cool Thermaltake Blue Orb FX. :D The old one was a crappy Akasa model, not appropriate for the CPU in full load.
The next planned upgrade is to change the graphic card with the new ATI Radeon HD4870, of ASUS or Sapphire.

In this post there's the configuration of this computer. I hope to take pictures of it one day. :roll:

Well I don't think I posted, but I did finally get some new upgrades. Which include the 4GB of RAM (GeiL), a 9800GTX amp! edition, and a 22" monitor. I'm not satisfied with the RAM though. I use XP 32bit and 3GB of this RAM isn't really any better then the 1.5GB I had before, and in some cases it's worse. My 9800GTX is dieing on me and the warranty is expired. :roll: I'll be getting another for free one way or another though lol.

Since the new Core i7 CPUs are coming out I'm planning on getting a good Quad Core or a Core 2 Extreme, along with either real good air cooling or water cooling so I can overclock. I'll be returning my current RAM and getting 4GB DRR3 1333MHz (since my mobo supports it). Hopefully that will be good.

Just thought I would revive this thread. :P

I've got a digital camera and finally here there are pictures of my latest PC. :D Its specifics are here; the differences there are in the keyboard, that now it's a Microsoft Reclusa, and in the graphic card, that now it's an ATI Radeon HD4870 of ASUS. More, there's the Thermaltake Blue Orb FX as CPU fan. :)

Some pictures are a bit dark for purpose, to better let see the lights (pictures 2, 3 and 4).

Nice update HummersRock. I hope that you haven't spent a lot for the Zotac 9800GTX Amp! Edition: these overclocked graphic cards costs too much than the respective standard version, and the FPS gain in a game is too little. More, is possible to get the same GPU and video memory frequencies with the standard version (called reference board).
4 GB of RAM memory in a 32 bit OS are seen like about 3 GB. You have to upgrade to a 64 bit OS, that anyway, don't give so many advantages than a 32 bit one.
What problem has your graphic card?
Since the new Core i7 CPUs are coming out I'm planning on getting a good Quad Core or a Core 2 Extreme, along with either real good air cooling or water cooling so I can overclock. I'll be returning my current RAM and getting 4GB DRR3 1333MHz (since my mobo supports it). Hopefully that will be good.
The new Intel Core i7 CPUs are great, but the prices of the first three versions are too high and different. But with this the Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors will be more cheap. :wink: Some models of dual and quad core Intel processors has been showed recently. I council to you the Core 2 Quad Q6600 (very good for overclocking) or the Core 2 Quad Q9300; for the dual core processors, the Core 2 Duo E8400 is a very good processor.
So you want to upload the CPU keeping your motherboard; make sure that the chipset of your motherboard supports the recent Intel LGA 775 socket CPUs.
4GB DRR3 1333MHz of RAM memory are a good quantity. If they had 1600MHz of working frequency could be better, but their timings were more high.

It wasn't a whole lot more I don't think (the video card). I am now using 64bit Vista since my HDD that had XP died and I don't have another HDD to transfer the important stuff on this one in order to do a reformat.

The RAM I have now is 800MHz with 5-4-4-10 timings and everyone has told me that the timings are the most important thing. I'm not sure if that's true though. I still have my RAM so I guess I may keep it, or get some 1066MHz that can stand 4-4-4-12 timings.

I plan on getting a Q9550 or better.

I actually had more then 4GB of RAM, but returned the rest for a refund. I thought 8GB would make a difference, but it really did not for what gaming (wish someone would have told me). Apparently the RAM was causing artifacting and a whole bunch of problems with textures and stuff while playing games. It's odd that it did that seeing as how 32bit XP is supposed to only use and recognize 3GB. :oops: :oops:

Windows XP 32 bits don't show you more than 3 Gb but it's not really a problem because your 4 Gb (or more) are took in account.

Probably because your old HDD is IDE type and the new one with Vista 64 bit is a SATA type and you can't plug it in your motherboard, it isn't? Is there an IDE channel?

The timings are mostly important to have better results in benchmarks and in the use of some programs, like the video editing ones. Anyway is better don't have too high timings in proportion to the frequency.
My gaming PC has 800MHz DDR2 RAM memories with 4-4-4-12 of timings, and they're very good timings for 800MHz DDR2; yours are very good too.
I actually had more then 4GB of RAM, but returned the rest for a refund. I thought 8GB would make a difference, but it really did not for what gaming (wish someone would have told me). For the games 8 BG of RAM memory are too exaggerated, they're useless. Only with few applications a so high RAM memory quantity is worth. For games 2 GB are enough, also because the graphic card memory does more; for the games the memory is used mostly lo load a great quantity or data (for example, the maps or a strategy games) and for very high screen resolutions, like 1900x1200 and more.
In most cases the games artifacts are given by too high GPU frequencies that can give problems to its proper working; I remember to have overclocked an ATI Radeon X850XT, and with a game there were texture artifacts, then it crashed.

My motherboard will support both. The older one finally died though and the only other HDDs in my house are being used by my dad.

Just forgot to post the specifics of my older PC, the one that I use to do most of my things, like the ones about 3D and MM2. There's no need to take pictures of it, it's not good looking like my latest one.

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2533 MHz BUS 533 MHz;
RAM memory: 512 MB 333 MHz DDR (before they were 256 MB);
Motherboard: ASUS P4B533 series;
Graphic card: Xmdia Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT 128 MB VRAM;
Audio card: Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS;
HDD: 2 x Maxtor 200 GB EIDE (initially there was only one 60 GB IBM HDD);
Speakers: Creative Inspire T7700 7.1 system (before I'd a crappy 2 speaker system);
Other: FDD, LG DVD Player, LG GSA-4120B DVD RAM writer;
Desktop system: Logitech Cordless Desktop Deluxe;
OS: Windows XP HE SP3.

That reminds me that I need to fix up my old Dell. The motherboard died (I think) but I have another motherboard to replace it with. I'll just need to get a better heatsink-fan combo for the CPU.

I forgot to mention on this topic that I bought a Q9450 used (it looks brand new though) for $190 off of Ebay. It came with the typical fan and heatsink, which both looked brand new.

And now my graphics card seems to be dying on me for real. It can no longer play Crysis without laggin BIG time, and it has a hard time cooling off--sometimes going to 60C and never coming down.

Your Alienware laptop is very cool Kyle, also if I found a bit useless the Blue Ray reader/writed for most of the uses, especially in a laptop. The other specifics are great.

Sounds a great bought. :wink:

Is it the Zotac 9800GTX Amp! recently bought? Is weird that mow it gives more problems with the games; I could just say to keep your graphic card drives always updated.
