As you may have noticed, I started work on the roads to try to get a feel of what to expect. Well, turns out I messed up and now I need to redo that entire section I started on (the picture is the last bit of progress I got done, really) because I forgot to split the roads up into multiple pieces (they don't have a thing for the sidewalk). I'm also thinking I need to make some "prefabs" or basically puzzle pieces in other words, so I have a nice little artillery of roads to work with to make my life much easier.
I still haven't gotten around to the actual concept stages, Google is being really slow when it comes to the street view thing so I don't know how long it's going to take me to plan out each little district.
I want some feedback from you guys. There's actually some notable landmarks around here, like the AMC 30 (biggest AMC theater in the UNITED STATES), an In-N-Out, and among other things. I want some possible ideas from you guys on what I should place on the map - those 2 landmarks I already mentioned to you are definitely going in the map.
I would put my house there, but I don't have enough room, considering my house isn't on one of the main streets and this version of the Inland Empire is basically minus all the little side streets - you can't see them!
Also, about my car - I will most likely finish it up and place it somewhere within this map, but until you guys find it, I will not give out the location of it. It will be one of the best kept secrets within this map.

Yeah, I would just make one of each piece of road you need and then just keep copying them and moving them around as needed. It'll be much quicker like that. I would do that for as many things as possible. I would take as many shortcuts as you safely can, no reason to give yourself more work than you have to.I'm also thinking I need to make some "prefabs" or basically puzzle pieces in other words, so I have a nice little artillery of roads to work with to make my life much easier.

My advice on making cities....
1) Plan for curbs/intersections.....maybe make a perfect intersection piece and make copies and place them all around and then connect roads to them.
2) You can always add vertices to existing edges using Modify>Break instead of remodeling them.
3) Make all roads and adjust their heights/altitudes first (when you do raise or lower roads, do so with pairs or multiple adjacent vertices at a time, NOT one-by-one). Then, when you're done all roads (almost near the end of track-making, but before splitting roads into seperate objects) select all "inner" vertices and move them down a bit (as per manual) to create the sidewalks effect.
4) Its usually a good idea to create the whole terrain first, and separate them into the different objects (GROUND_, ROADS_, ...etc) as a last step.
City-making requires a lot of foresight. Good luck on this potentially amazing project.

Yeah, I don't want to get too far into this project and have to completely start over because I forgot one little thing, you know? I will definitely be doing the puzzle pieces concept, because I can't seem to stress enough how important it is that all the vertices stay connected. I will most likely end up making the entire road system and then spend a few days splitting it up.
I can easily lose focus and start trying to rush things, I need to make sure I don't lose control and be like "AWWW **** this"
Late update:
I am currently starting work on a the next version of the HUD map...I will most likely be building the map off of this version. It is much cleaner this time around but I still need to figure out which roads should be bigger roads and what ones should be smaller roads - I did a poor job of dividing them up strategically and equally. Oh well.

Just do that after , use the "puzzle pieces" strategy

As I just said, the HUD map I just posted is a beta and does NOT reflect the final product. There will most likely be a body of water there - I just haven't added it to the HUD map first. I'm going to be using this one to build the map itself.

Cool looking hudmap in MM2 style, very good work with it. The roads are many, you can remove some if will be too much to make for you.
If the landscape is hilly and the roads have slopes keep in mind to make the intersections flat, exacly like in SF, otherwise there will be very bad traffic and roads working problems.
