Silent's Projects

Postby Silent1Unknown » Fri May 23, 2008 7:06 am

Hi all. I'm a beginner modeler and here is what I've got to show so far. Let me know how I can improve.

2002 Cadillac CTS

2007 Nissan Quest

2007 Mazda 3

Audi RSQ Concept (from the movie "i, ROBOT")

Due to demand, I retextured the CTS and then released it.

Mazda RX-7

The status on the cars:
1. Both CTS are up on MMArchive. But wait for a newer version.
2. Nissan Quest was experimental. Project abandoned.
3. Mazda 3 is up on MMArchive. Not very accurate. Wait for newer version, I finally found blueprints!
4. RSQ is up on MM2Tracks, MMArchive and surprisingly, here. Found blueprints, expect a new version.
5. RX-7 with spinners is up on MMArchive. RX-7 without spinners version is found here (MM2X). It's final.

I also just finished writing a tutorial. It's pretty much a complete guide for beginners. In it, I talk about how to set up blueprints, how to model (basic), how to texture, how to package into AR and a few other things.

The original tutorial is presented at the MM2C. I've also prepared a package that contains a PDF file, a Z3D file, an AR file and all the original pictures. Franch88 has already uploaded it here somewhere. Also look out for it at 3DAutos, MMArchive and MM2Tracks. Until they host it, you can view it here.

And on the assembly line, I have the following:

1977 Chevrolet Camaro or Autobot BumbleBee
Image

2007 Saleen S281E or Decepticon Barricade

When I texture this thing, should it have clean textures or dirty textures like in the movie? What other color combos might look good?

Your model looks very nice, keep it up.

The paintjobs suggested by Riva are good; with striped it's better. You could make some colors dirt and some other clean.

What is the maximum number of paintjobs you can have on a car?

Also, are there any tutorials on how to make damage textures?

What is the maximum number of paintjobs you can have on a car?
With the ZModeler 1.07 Oleg's PKG plug-in, included in the program, there's a limit of 10 paintjobs. With the Maxoff's version of the same filter this limit has been passed, but I don't know their exact number. But with more colors you have to use short names, because there's a character limit for the paintjobs names in the .info file.
Also, are there any tutorials on how to make damage textures?
This is very easy. Just copy the textures that you want for the damage textures, edit them and just add the suffix _dmg after the file name (for example logan_blue.tga for normal color texture and logan_blue_dmg.tga for the damaged version). The in-game result will be immediate.

Will the damage work just like on the default cars? I mean to say, will there be step-by-step damage or one small bump into a lamppost and the whole car will be damaged in one shot?

And damage textures wont have shine right?

Of course, they works like the default cars, in a step-by-step way. This depends mainly on the damages textures size: for example, if a tiled 16x16 texture used for the car color is used also as damage texture, the car will get the damages texture at the first hit and its look will be very bad, because it's tiled. A car that has this it's the Mini One Carpack.
In the damages .vehCarDamage file located in the Tune folder there's the value "TextelDamageRadius", that regulates the size of the damage texture stains while the car damage.
And damage textures won't have shine right?
No, this isn't right. This is true only for MM1. Just check the default in-game cars damages textures, and you'll notice always the shine.

I will make clean textures, with dirty textures as damage.

Anyone know how to make a dash?

The 2D or 3D dashboard ? I think you talk about the 2D version. You can ask Franch or VW-Tuner-Oburg or download a car unlocked to import the "dash.pkg" file to know objects and textures used for a dashboard.

You'll need of MM2 Dashboard placer (available from MM2x and HQTM websites) to manage the needles/steering wheel/gear stick positions.

BTW nice progress, good LP wheels 8)

Very nice wheels Silent1Unknown. :)

For the dashboard, if you give to me good real pictures of the car dashboard, I can make it for you. But if you want to do it yourself, I can give to you some tips.

I don't know if I'll release a tutorial about how to make a dashboard with MM2DP program; Oburg has done a little one, but it's in German. My main problem is that I don't have time to do it and I could make some explaination error.
