Track Remakes/Fixes

Postby HummersRock » Sat May 30, 2009 2:22 am

I am finally starting on remaking all of my old tracks, in a way. I will be making new textures for them, modifying the terrain, adding new objects, adding more objects, etc. I know that all of my tracks are pretty bad or horrible and very empty, so I will be fixing them.

I will be starting with Country Side because it is very empty and boring and has some very bad textures that were made with PSP brushes and Paint. I will then fix Palm Sands since it is also very bad and needs a lot of work. I will probably be modifying it's terrain. I will then move onto Desert and continue through the rest, although a few might not be fixed.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Country Side
Textures made: 47
Useless polygons removed: 1027
Objects added/replaced: 9
Other Modifications: change plenty of the terrain, added some objects, fixed some problems, fixed road width.

Wilderness
Textures made: 4
Useless polygons removed: 0
Objects added/replaced: none.
Other Modifications: added a lot more to it.

Palm Sands
Textures made: none.
Useless polygons removed: 1133.
Objects added/replaced: none.
Other Modifications: remade most of it.

Desert
Textures made: none.
Useless polygons removed: 0.
Objects added/replaced: none.
Other Modifications: none.

Country Side 2
Textures made: none.
Useless polygons removed: 0.
Objects added/replaced: none.
Other Modifications: none.

Mountain Pass
Textures made: none.
Useless polygons removed: 0.
Objects added/replaced: none.
Other Modifications: none.

Mountain Pass 2
Textures made: none.
Useless polygons removed: 0.
Objects added/replaced: none.
Other Modifications: none.

Crystal County
Textures made: none.
Useless polygons removed: 0.
Objects added/replaced: none.
Other Modifications: none.

This list will be updated.
Yes, I really want to improve them all. I always have. I was really never finished with any of my tracks, there were always other things that I wanted to do to them. Palm Sands is one that really needs help and really was about 80% finished. Some tracks have objects left over and texture problems--some hardly have textures.

I would like my Desert track to have traffic going all around it. Traffic for Palm Sands would be nice. And I have always wanted to have Country Side and Palm Sands combined into one track, but that would probably have way too much lag.

I was not able to finish Crystal County due to losing the z3d and 3ds files because of a virus. I really want to see that track finished, along with Country Side 2.

These tracks will be much better when they are done.
Country Side update:

I have got lots of trees added now, I just need a new tree texture. I am also making new textures for it now, along with trying to make some nice sky textures for it.

A screenshot of some of what has been done so far:

I have made new textures and am only using one old texture and two others from another track. I will soon have these replaced with new ones. I will have different trees because these are from my other track. I also plan on having some grass objects.

The poly count is now 1027 polygons lower than it used to be and I have made it bigger by adding some more to the terrain, so I have reduced it quite a bit. I plan on adding some more.

Update.

Image

Hmm...that door is a little big... Most textures are finished. I still need a new tree texture, some house textures and maybe a different road texture. All objects are finished.

Hopefully I will get this released soon. I might skip right to Palm Sands next instead of Desert. I'm anxious to work on Palm Sands since it has been the one I have wanted to fix the most out of all my tracks, and I might want to take more time on Desert than originally planned.

It seems that is as sharp/clear as I can get my textures. I added -nomipmap to my mm2 shortcut and turned mip maping off in nVidia control panel and it did help some, but it seemed to help most when seeing the textures in the distance. If mm2 isn't blurring them at all now, then it must still be scaling them. :?

Very nice work, you're being very accurate with the improvements. Yeah, the door of that house is a bit too big, and put some window.
Good luck with the next ones.

Yeah, I do need some windows. Unfortunately the current brick texture looks TERRIBLE when seen from a distance of more then 20-40 feet.

Since I am impatient I have worked on Palm Sands some. Removed 1133 useless faces. I might make a lot more for Palm Sands. Who knows.

Maybe make the M,L,VL using simple color, not this texture?

If the tiled look of that bricks texture is bad in far distances better change it. Find the best textures possible.
Also, use the other LOD objects copies, so all the objects will be always visible in any distance, and if possible, make the low and very low ones with less polygons and more simple textures.

MM2 don't support the LoD about textures. Everybody knows the LoD for objects but unfortunately you can't do it for textures. As Saj, I've the same problem with both R8 and other addons.
Keep up the good work !

I might make the house less polygons, but making it lower then 14 isn't possible. I think it's currently 20.

I think I could solve this texture problem just by editing it some. :) There are a couple of lines going through it (like there is extra concrete between some bricks) that cause this problem.
