I've recently discovered a method of getting hardware rendering in a copy of MM1 that is on Windows 7 64 bit, when it will only give you software rendering.
Overview
Basicly, you need to manually add some numbers into the video.cfg file that will be provided in this tutorial. I'll also explain how to add resolutions to the game.
The Issue?
The issue in this case is that MM1 can't detect your video card. Something about the 64 bit version of Windows 7 prevents it, and no compatibility setting or trick will get it to be detected.
The Solution?
Easy! First of all, be sure you've run MM1 at least once, so that a video.cfg file is generated in your MM1 directory. When the file is there, open it with notepad, and look for a line called "DriverGuid", followed by a long number.
Example
Code: Select all
DriverGuid=d7b71e3e-4fe9-11cf-d2-77-2f-30-0d-c2-cd-35
After you've done that, download this template file, and put it in your MM1 directory. Then open it with notepad, and put the number you copied in each of the 3 "DriverGuid" lines, one for each renderer. Save the file, and test ingame. If everything went right, you should now have hardware rendering!
Adding Resolutions
If you want to add a resolution to one of the three lists, one for each renderer, all you need to do is add it, like this.
Code: Select all
1280 960 1581740031
1280 1024 1581248511
1600 1024 1579282431
1680 1050 1578528831
*Width* *Hight* 1578528831
Conclusion
And that concludes this tutorial. If you have any questions or problems please feel free to ask! I'll help in any way I can.
