What game shaped your musical interests?

Postby RonnieSykes » Fri Dec 11, 2015 12:45 am

So, basically, Tony Hawk made me love hardcore punk/underground rap, Burnout made me love emo/post-hardcore/pop punk music, Need for Speed made me love big beat/metal/hip-hop music... But what about you?

GTA San Andreas introduced me to the world of good rock with Radio X and K-DST.

NFS soundtrack (Hot Pursuit 2 specially) made me explore the world of rock. Now I find Progressive Rock/Metal better than anything else. 8)

Now this is something I'd love to talk about. When I first discovered the Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit soundtrack, I was blown away by the music and took an interest in rock and techno ever since.

An another series that shaped up my musical tastes would have to be Touhou Project. It's no secret that the games are well-known for their fantastic soundtracks, hence why there are so many different remixes for each song. Admittedly, I've heard the remixes first, but that's just because it happened to be the background music for a MM1 video I was watching.

Never was a game before MW '12 and Rivals that cliched my music interests. Where I come from, we have genres that never exceed anywhere beyond the State's borders. Since Criterion's last, I've been keen on such stuff. Multiple genres in a game, form a particular genre that only one can understand in one's own mind/language and expressing it would need immense amount of inhuman energy. This topic has some spells. Nice one, RonnieSykes :).

Keanu Reeves chose the Red pill and started bending spoons. I chose ZModeler 1.07b and made my own Matrix.

I have not needed a particular game to discover some music but I loved some songs while the genre, in itself, did not like it. I am a fan of metal and hard rock but I loved the song "Joyride" by Da-Shootaz on Grand Theft Auto's OST.
Metal / electro music on the intro of V-Rally 2 ("Painful" by the French band "Sin") is great too.

I do not forgotten, either, old game music as Street Fighter 2, super Castlevania 4 or music boss Donkey Kong Country (King K Rool's theme). I love them !
