Nik's Low Poly Car Modelling Challenge! #1

Why don't we make more cars in the way Angel Studios would have done them?

In the past decade, MM2 modding scene has been continuously flooded with high poly converts from all kind of games, cars which don't really fit the default game style, unless you mod every single car in such a way that the game would have only high poly cars in it.

In the meantime, scratch-made cars hardly received much attention, but logically they deserve it more. In my opinion the art style the vehicle artists chose for Midtown Madness is pretty simple, fits the city environment and overall art style and realistic enough.

The task of the challenge is the following:
You will be given 1 week to model a 3-wheeled vehicle you want in the style AS would have made it - take inspirations from the default Midtown Madness cars or Midnight Club's traffic cars style.

Some guidelines:
  • Use separate textures for the front, side, back and top (if needed).
  • Texture resolutions such as 256x256, 512x256 and so on are good enough, no need to make over-sized ones, just make sure you use good and smooth filtering when resizing.
  • Try to make the models as low poly as possible, you can check out the default MM2 models to get inspiration.
  • The wheels are not important. Default MM2 wheels have 8 horizontal steps and a flat on each side, so you can take the wheel models from a MM2 vehicle, or make your own by using the Cylinder tool in Zmodeler.

You can choose to make any 3-wheeled vehicle, it doesn't matter if it is a concept, old or new. You can use any 3D modelling tool.

Anyone is free to participate, you can write in the topic or send me a PM if you want to participate! You can join the challenge from today until Day 5.

In the last day, send me a PM with few renders and the model name of the completed model. On the next day, a poll will be made with the entries.
Do not write spoilers or post pics of what car you are going to model.

Unfortunately I won't have time to participate in this. I am upgrading from Windows 10 so I have to wipe my stuff onto storage in order to create a backup image.

Well that's a shame :(

However, if this one is successful I might hold it more times

This is interesting. I'll try to participate.

Can I make my own textures instead of using photos?

Great!! Welcome :)

Yes, you can, any kind of textures are fine as long as they look somewhat close to AS style. I think you can take a look at how the textures are done for the London traffic bus ;)

Actually, I might be able to make it. My upgrade to Windows 8 didn't work out so I'm back on Windows 7 and I'm back modelling.

Yay! The contest officially begins tomorrow. But you can start preparing from today

PS
I think you are actually going to regret upgrading as Windows 7 is better.

The competition starts today! Good luck guys and make sure you send me two renders of the model from front and rear angled views and the name (year not required), once you have completed it.

If you want to upgrade it was preferred to go to Win 10, 8 is more like a downgrade... Yet, Zmodeler worked fine for me when I used that OS.

I successfully upgraded to Windows 8, and things are inevitably going wrong for me, so my plan is to patch it up until I get the free upgrade to 10.
