Herbie - WIP

About one year ago I startet modeling Herbie. It will be a high detailed model.
Because the Hill Valley Project annoys me a bit and I need a breake, I decided to edit Herbie. When it is done, I will reduce the polys, so that it will work for MM2.
The car will have different paintjobs, that will represent different appereances of Herbie in the Movies.

Thats Herbie so far now:

What's the polycount of the car?

One wheel has 17847 polygons and ther chassis by now has 39633 polys.
The Model will be for animation and for selling on 3d-Stock-Sites. But based on that model i will create a model with much less poligons for MM2.

What is the highest Polycount, that will work ain MM2?

Just make sure the vertices level is below 55000 to work. Don't take my word for it.
A car model with a total of more than 50000 polygons for the BODY_H object can work in MM2, even if the _L LOD copy is of the same mesh. The main problem is the vertices count of it, that when exceeds about 55000 a game crash is foreseeable.

Thank you very much :)

The model looks great so far, very good work. :) What program are you using to make it?
Yeah, better reduce the polygons count.

I specify again, that what I said about the vertices limit is only valid for the BODY_H object. The wheels could even have an higher number and so a polygons count like the one you're having, but it's always not suggested have so detailed wheels for MM2, and then, it's kinda useless; for example, make a 3D tyre tread is something really exaggerate.

Great wheels.

I will like more if the car has great driving performance.

In the differnt movies of Herbie, the Racing-venyls (53-circles and the red-white-blue Racing-Stripe) have some little differences in details.
I took a screenshot of Herbie's Front from "Herbie goes Bananas" from 1980 (which is my famous Movie from the series) and created something like a "formula" about the relations of the colours width:

Wondered how you even lasted that long without a break. Go ahead, you earned it :P.

Man, I'm just wondering straight, that maybe you're bringing your childhood fantasies to life using your talent in adolescence :o. GOD, i just wish i had that kinda talent/imagination, I've my own childhood fantasies to bring to life..or mm2.

And for this project too, you're doing a hell lotta research again 8O (can't believe you said this was a 'break' project, you might as well build a 49 storey building instead :P). Nice to hear about the formula for Herbie you're working on. As Franch88 said about keeping lower details with the 3d model, I'm afraid this applies to the paintjob too. MM2's 1024x1024 doesn't give about perfection, but that's just mm2..unless you're making a GTA 4 version, with a 4K res paintjob - THAT'd be awesome :D.

Wish you luck with the projects, both of them :aprobar:. Awesome work

Seems I totally missed this topic, that's an awesome 3D model! When I was a kid I loved Herbie, mainly because of the 2000's remake. I hope to see it finished, it's looking great so far.

About what Franch88 and BIGzee said about lowering the details, well, if you were beginning to model it I would suggest the same, but since you already had put so much effort on this, just continue the model with the same quality of details you did until now. And then, why not, actually why not releasing it also for a few other racing games, it would be a waste to reduce such a great model just for MM2.

About the variations between movies, it would be really cool if later you make some different liveries from each movie, like a totally white one from the first movie when the car was brand new, or another one with duct tape holding the headlights like it's seen in another movie, or even a dusted one, the custom tuning version and the NASCAR version of Fully Loaded. Keep it up :)
